Requirements
for a Moving Image Production
Unit 1
GC1
Type of
moving image production (media forms)
·
What type of media product did you produce and what
was it for? How did you distribute it?
The
type of media product that we have produced was a short film that was
approximately 90 second long.
It
was for the website ‘Depict’.
The
way that we have distributed the media product is through ‘YouTube’. We
uploaded the media product on the website.
·
What other types of moving image media product are
there? What different distribution methods are there?
There
are many other types of moving image media products, for some examples there
are Movies, TV Programs, Music Videos, Animations, documentary’s and many
others.
Other
distribution Methods can range to websites to phones apps and others for
example there is Facebook, YouTube, Snapchat, Instagram, Reddit or even you
could have the potential or stream the media product live on certain websites
or even programs. If possible, another distribution method could be to premiere
the media product at a theatre/open public venue.
Finance and
sources of funding
·
What sources of funding exist for film, television and
other moving image productions?
Many
sources of funding can be used for when funding a film or other media products,
For example there are ‘websites’ like ‘Kickstarter’.
Kickstarter
is a public benefit corporation that maintains
a global crowdfunding platform that grants the access to publish a media
product onto the website in which allow public users to review the potential
media product ad maybe fund the products depending if the viewer like it enough
to donate the money to the product. This can be great way to fund any media
product but is not vey reliant over its probability of enough people donating
enough to reach the fund target.
Another
source of financial funding could result to a producer picturising your
product, if at any potential cost that anyone finds a producer, the producer
can take action on your product and picturise the media product. What this will
do is give the producer the action to represent the product giving it potential
growth and if it receives enough recognition it has great potential for money
and also a greater audience. This can really push that limit of finance to
small people that want to produce media products.
Working
for an existing media distributing company is also a good way of receiving some
great finance. If someone has as team or an online group that is willing
partner/work for a business that specialises in “Moving images product” it
could be a great a step of getting a source of financial income for a media
product, with the approval of the company to fund the project and get The
“moving image production” published. The negative point of these id that you
will have to share the outcome source of money to the company also including
the company for copyright and responsibility for the “Moving image production”.
This could mean that there is a massive in money and also independency
including a lot of responsibility for the media product.

Personnel: ‘Talent’
(actors) and ‘crew’ (the production team) that work n a media production.
Crew:
·
What is the makeup of the typical team for a moving
image production;
A) A low
budget short
The make up of a low budget team will normally consist
of a very small amount of members on a team. The low budget short film will
normally include a small amount of actors depending on the concept of the short
film. As it’s a short film it casually doesn’t include a large amount of people
unless the main conflict is based around a scenario of a lot of people.
Other than the actors other members that will be
included will the camera crew, these are the people that are control of the
shots of the short film and is in charge of controlling the camera. Low budget
will not normally include a separate crew member that will control audio
technology as the low budget will suggest that the audio is primarily attached
to the camera.
Other team
members of a low budget short film will be the Editor of the short film, this
person will combine all of the footage created by the actors and the camera men
and would ‘edit all of the footage with all of the other members as
confirmation of the low budget short. The overall makeup for the low budget
short is the, ‘Actors’ the people that will perform in front of the camera that
will propose the conflict of the film. ‘Camera Crew’ the individuals that are
in charge recording the actors. And also the ‘Editors’ the people responsible
for assembling all of the footage corrects with the visual confirmation of the
other members of the group.
B) A
television programme
The typical team makeup for a Television programme will
consist on firstly the actor of the television show, depending on the budget of
the television show will express how many actors that will appear during the
‘TV’ show, the range of the actor that will appear in th television programme
will range to more than 10 people. The categories of actors in the main cast,
the main cast are the actor that will further represent the television show
this means that the main conflict of the show will be based on the main actor
of the show, in some scenarios the show can have cameo appearances on the show,
some other actors from other televisions programmes or movies ect. For example,
in the show big bang theory there are multiple appearance of the other actor
participating into the show as a ‘cameo’ appearance. This is a great and unique
way of grabbing interest from other audiences as more of the people.
Other than the main characters of the show they will also be
the off cast characters. The off-cast character are the people that have a
particular role in the television programme.
They are normal relevant in scenes of a conflict to or assist the
character in the situation they are in.
Television Programme will have a leading producer, the person
responsible for setting up all everything the story, sets, actors and ect. Not
only person is responsible for creating every single episode there can be
other/different producer that can create the episode (these are called executive)
it depends on what type of television programme it is a sitcom or a cartoon tv
show. Normally these are the people in charge of the creation of the television
programmes.
Finally we have the editors of the television programme,
these people are very important because they have a great responsible for
assembling the episodes together. Over the way the shot are created in the
television industry the editors are extremely important. There are different
kinds of editors in this area as there is special effects edit for if a scene
requires special effects for example game of thrones will have a special
effects editor over its visual representation.
C) Hollywood
feature film
The makeup of a Hollywood
feature film consist on a large cast as normal a Hollywood feature will
have a large budget. The Hollywood feature film will have different group that
will be operation different roles for the feature film for example there is an
audio group, a group that focus on sounds music basic audio, there will be an
recording group and an editing group. There is a recording group which will be in
charge of the recording, camera will be controlled by the producers of the
feature film will control the shots. Other groups like the Design group, there
role is to create the sets and also the clothing for the character that will
take place in the feature film.
The important of the makeup of a Hollywood feature film will
be the actors. The actors that are appropriate for holly feature film are
actors that has an existing reputation or that has previous experience with
good rated project that are associated to the same industry.
·
Explain
how you allocated work in your very small group. Who performed what role? Did
they any experience of that role before?
We allocated are group to have different roles in the proposal of the
performance/recording of our short film. Are allocation was to have two main
actors, a narrator and a camera man. The crew of the small group was:
Declan: Main actor, playing the stalker
Erin: second actor, playing the victim
Mathew: the narrator of the short film, describing the situations of both
actors
Bradley: The camera man, one responsible for recording the shots of the
short film
Actor, Declan has had previous experience playing and acting in short
film before and has perform well for what we tried to aim for.
Bradley, has had association with controlling the camera in other short
films.
Erin and Mathew has a new approach to these roles
Cast/other contributors
There was no other contribution during the project short film. Only
backstage people in the shots of the east Norfolk collage.
Time: What was
your timeframe and how well did you use your time you were given?
The teams was fairly great at completing the objects of our work in the
time frames that we were given, The team finished early and had succeeded at
managing a decent quality short film with many assets for example we had
implemented an onscreen texting visual effects which would be very interesting
in terms of quality, also we had to try and fit in time for the narration
recording on the short film. At start we had to record the part in the collage
which including the actor Declan to record his parts for the first scene in the
“hive” location. Other day had to be scheduled to record the certain part in
the same area. “The Next Day” in the short film had to be a scheduled plan as
we need the actor to be in different
cloths. The recordings of the next day was performed in the day. The actor
‘Declan’ had to make sure of the clothes that he was wearing for the recordings
as the same with the other actress ‘Erin’. Each different location in the short
film he recorded on different days of Monday, Thursday and also Friday. Over
the teams main timeframe was around one month including the parts of editing,
narration and also the recording.
·
What happens when do not meet deadlines in the
professional media industry?
The consequences of not meeting the deadlines on a professional standard
in the media industry will result in a negative effect of you media
representation, as it’s the responsibly of providing and maintaining a link
with the client that are involved in the work. If the situation is public over
the consent of you or had been responsible over journey it and infact affect
the audience over the course of action of not completing the project that is
said to be revealed for the public, in this is will cause a negative impact in
the business that you engage with in the future as they will be informed of the
actions of not meeting the deadlines. The actions that you mostly have to fill
is the part of trying to receive more scheduled time, if work is not completed
you will have to invest more money and time in the schedules of completing the
product in the professional industry. Also it will not only effect you but also
other people that our involved in the planning and production of the product.
If you miss a deadline its possible you could be putting the journalists in a
different position as they will have their own deadline to meet with other
editers and publishers to meet and so can give you a reliant in terms of the
professional media industry.
·
Did you meet the deadlines in class?
Yes we had managed the time to publish the final produced result on
‘YouTube’ with the time we had received we managed to include other positives
aspects of the short film.
Equipment/Facilities: What is
needed?
o The equipment
that we needed to enquire was a camera that could deliver the benefits of
recording in the resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and also at least 45 fps
o An editing
software to edit the short film in not only tradition cut but also including
other unique visual ideas
o A condenser
microphone to record the Narration
o Permission
of filming in certain areas
We had obtained the equipment from the granted permission from the east
Norfolk collage. We were granted to borrow the equipment by using the student
cards as an of responsibility for the equipment.
Locations: where did
you film and how do go about securing locations legally?
The filming performed by the group was located on the grounds of east
Norfolk collage, all permission for filming on the ground inside the collage
was approved, total of 2 locations of where we filmed within the collage.
The way of securing locations legally for recording purposes is that you
would have perform the action of receiving permission from either landowner of
an area or a building to record on the premise. If this is not performed then
you could risk the recording getting either taken from you or copyrighted to
the owner the location. For example, if you were filming on a land area where
the owner is not aware of use of recording he can take legal action against you
ranging from copyright, exclusion of footage or a fine.
Materials: what, in
addition to a equipment, crew and cast and cast, is needed to make a moving
images text? Where/how are they obtained?
o Pepsi max =
£1.50
o Cup =£0
o Papers/folders
= £0
o Phone = £0
o Bag = £0
No consideration had to be made.
Legal issues:
No legal considerations had to be made for using the certain selection of
material that we had enquired.
·
How did copyright affect your Depict! Production?
It had really affected our ways to use any types of song to include within
the moving image media product as most of the music would have come under the
risk of copyright this forced the group to use a copyright free music website
to benefit our short film, shortly though we decided to not include music in
the video as we preferred the narration instead. The phones seen in the short
film as a visual effect we had to locate a design that we free for access and
that wouldn’t go under the terms of copyright.
·
Define and give examples of the following:
o Clearance:
The action/movement of “clearing” a proposed access or complication for example
if you want to use a property clearance is the action given for receiving the
authorization for access to that property
o Public
liability insurance: Is the access to cover the cost of any legal action and
compensation claims made against your work/business or any form of organization
for example, if you perform any action like property damage or an injury the
insurance can clarify the situation and pay for any of the actions like
transport of medical injury or to give the action of medical treatment or
replacement
o Completion
guarantee/insurance: this gives you action to receive a guarantee completion
for the producer to finish and produce the film to the distributor and so
triggering the payment to a minimum price of distribution.
